The Chicago Stock Exchange Building designed by Adler & Sullivan was erected in 1893-4 at the corner of LaSalle and Washington Streets in what is now Chicago's Loop. Since demolished, the early skyscraper style building was innovative in design and featured a large almost two story high room on the second floor which became the Trading Room. The walls were mahogany paneled and above they were decorated with stenciled canvas that were rich in color and complex in design. We have reproduced two of these designs here.
Our Sullivan stencil canvas prints are giclee printed, framed or gallery wrapped and shipped from Ohio USA.
In the Arts & Crafts Craftsman era Bungalows, a carved motto was common decorative item. You could easily have had one machine carved in Knotty Pine at the State or County Fair. The serious aficionado would purchase a hand-carved motto in oak or mahogany by mail from the Roycrofters.
How about this one above the front door or fireplace mantle?
This one would be perfect above the dining room buffet or sideboard:
