Meet our new craftsman, John Thiesen better known as the ‘wood magician‘! Frustrated with job layoffs, John started his craftsmanship in 1977 building furnishings for his own first apartment.|
John is a self-taught cabinetmaker and a juried member of the Arts & Craftsmen Guild located on the historic Roycroft Campus in East Aurora, NY. One of his favorite projects was to replicate a Buffalo Furniture maker Charles Rohlfs chair for the Milwaukee Art Museum which they needed for an exhibit tour. John works a variety of woods including white oak, mahogany, cherry, ash, maple and beech.
John builds mission style furniture and lighting, the latter known as Adirondack Craftsman Lighting which we are introducing here. The lamp fixtures are made of various woods but most often white oak. Shades usually have Mica lens available in two shades: amber and silver. The woods have a natural finish or can be shellacked. Most of John’s work is crafted to order, so please allow 2 - 4 weeks plus shipping time for delivery.
All John’s lighting incorporates UL approved electrical components. Table and Floor Lamps come with a 6 ft antique cord. Sconces include mounting hardware. When using incandescent bulbs, do not exceed 60 watts.
With 40 years of experience, John also does custom work; if you are interested please contact us and we will put John in contact with you. John loves kitchens but also restores vintage wood interiors. John can do veneer work, inlay, gold leaf, bent wood, hand turnings, upholstery, metal work, leaded glass and handcut dovetails.
