Graycliff Diamond Window

This design is inspired by a striking diamond shaped window above the porte-cochere in the Frank Lloyd Wright designed 1926 Isabelle R Martin house, located along the eastern shore of Lake Erie in Derby, NY.
Known as "The Jewel on he Lake", the house was the summer home for Darwin Martin and his family of Buffalo, 13 miles north. Isabelle, Darwin's wife worked directly with Wright on the design of the house. This house design is considered one of Wright's important Organic Style. The entire Graycliff estate is 8.5 acres all landscaped to specification by Wright.
Darwin Martin had selected Wright to design the family homestead, the Martin House Complex in Buffalo. Additionally, Darwin Martin also selected Wright to design the famous Larkin Administrative Building near downtown Buffalo.
After the Darwins Great Depression financial disaster, the Buffao Complex was abandoned in 1937 but Graycliff was kept by Isabelle until 1943 when she sold it to he Piarists Fathers who used it for a Catholic boarding school for gifted children from Buffalo.
The House was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
The Piarists put the property up for sale in 1997 at which time it was purchased by a Conservancy Group who restored the estate to its original condition and opened it to public tours.
