Frank Lloyd Wright Collection® Skylight framed Tiles |
Wright built his Oak Park Studio in 1898 as an addition to his home which had been built 15 years earlier. He used the design opportunity to express his radical style.
Entry into the Studio off Chicago Avenue requires five turns in an attempt to create a sequence much longer than it is.
Once inside you are in a quiet moody area where gold painted walls framed in dark wood are brightly lit with natural light via three skylights.
The skylights are a collection of green and gold rectangles and the effect is quite calming. With Wright's Library to the right and the Drafting Room to the left, you felt you were in hallowed space.
This 4" x 8" polychromatic Motawi 'Skylight' and 'Chicago' Tiles are inspired by the Skylight in the loggia of Wright's studio in Oak Park.
The 4" x 8" polychromatic Motawi 'Martin' Tile is inspired by the Skylight in the loggia of the Darwin Martin House in Buffalo. Motawi Tiles are made in Michigan and are framed in Dard Hunter's quarter-sawn Oak Park oak frames shipped from Ohio. |
